Why Me? Why Now?
You might be wondering why should I read this blog? Why should I listen to you? Let’s be honest, I’m not a renowned psychologist or some mental health expert. I’m simply a middle-aged woman, mother of one teenage daughter, married for the past 18 years, and a career woman who is currently in her 18th year of teaching high school English but also a real estate agent. Those are jobs I do to pay bills. Recently, I published my first novel and am actively trying to pursue a career in writing, which has always been my dream. But like most dreams, I also need to survive financially so it has taken a back seat until now. And now I am ready to expose myself to the public’s scrutiny.
This blog is devoted to writing I began two years ago when I wasn’t sure what to do writing-wise. I wasn’t ready to begin another fiction novel but knew I needed to write. Then it dawned on me one day that I had plenty of material in the form of advice I had learned from my daughter and even my students. Many people may think that teenagers are closed off and know nothing about the “real world,” and they’re not wrong but they’re also not completely right with that judgment. Teenagers are sensitive to the world around them and just trying to navigate it the best they can with what they have to work with, which is not always the same things. So here I am taking what I have learned from working with teens and being a mom of a teen and sharing those pieces of advice with you. Maybe they work for you and maybe they don’t, but you never know what may land and make an impression on your own life, like it has for mine.
